Hartshead Sports College was a mixed, comprehensive 11-16 school in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, England which was awarded specialist Sports College status. The school was oversubscribed, accepting 210 students each year. It formally closed on 31 August 2008 in a merger with another local school, Stamford High School, to make the New Charter Academy. History

The school was opened in 1956 and closed in 2008. It has been extended several times Fact|date=September 2008. Hartshead was a Community School, situated opposite the outskirts of Ashton-under Lyne and derives its name from nearby Hartshead Pike. In 1998 Hartshead was one of the first schools in the country to be awarded the prestigious “Sportsmark” by the English Sports Council Fact|date=September 2008

Merger to form New Charter Academy

In September 2008 Hartshead merged with Stamford High School to form New Charter Academy, named after the academy's sponsor of the same name. The former Stamford High School is now New Charter's Silver Springs Campus and Hartshead's building is now Greenhurst Campus.The Academy opened in September 2008. Hartshead's 53rd Birthday

On 15th July 2008 Hartshead celebrated 53 years of Education. The Pupils watched a film and saw a variety of entertainment. Fact|date=September 2008

Uniform

The school uniform consisted of a white top/blouse, and black trousers or black skirts, the school tie, and a black school blazer.
