Biography
Phil Baugh was born in Olivehurst,
California in 1936. Singer and songwriterVern Stovall discovered him and helped him get a contract onCrest Records in 1962. With promotion fromLonghorn Records inDallas ,Texas their song Country Guitar became a hit. He then recorded an album calledLive Wire! as a follow up. However, it wasn't as successful. He continued to work inSouthern California , including joiningRay Price 's band in 1969. In 1975 he moved to Nashville where he become a popular session guitarist. In the 1980s he was part of a country/jazz band calledThe Superpickers . The lineup includedsteel guitar istBuddy Emmons ,drum merBuddy Harmon , bassistHenry Stryzlecki , pianistWillie Rainsford andharmonica playerTerry McMillian . The entire album "Live Wire!" was recorded with his signature heavily customized Telecaster.
