Provinces of Ethiopia

Until 1995 Ethiopia was divided into provinces, further subdivided into "awrajja"s or districts. They were replaced by regions and two chartered cities with the adoption of a new constitution that year.

From 1942 until 1995 the provinces of Ethiopia were:

*Gamu-Gofa
*Gojjam

*Hararghe
*Illubabor
*Kaffa
*Shoa

*Sidamo
*Tigray
*Welega
*Wello

Older provinces, which are still used to indicate location within Ethiopia, include:
