Glenwood City is a city in St. Croix County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,183 at the 2000 census. Glenwood City is the site of the yearly St. Croix County fair.

The city was founded on the banks of Tiffany Creek, a small trout stream. It was once a stop on the Soo Line railroad, but the line to Glenwood City is now abandoned.

Education

The public School District of Glenwood City maintains a K-12 educational complex on the southeast corner of the city.

Glenwood City is located at coor dms|45|3|26|N|92|10|12|W|city (45.057220, -92.169991)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.5 square miles (6.4 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 1,183 people, 460 households, and 305 families residing in the city. The population density was 477.2 people per square mile (184.2/km²). There were 491 housing units at an average density of 198.1/sq mi (76.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.07% White, 0.08% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.34% Asian, and 0.34% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.17% of the population.

There were 460 households out of which 36.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.9% were married couples living together, 12.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.5% were non-families. 29.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.08.

In the city the population was spread out with 28.6% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 17.8% from 45 to 64, and 18.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 89.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $36,964, and the median income for a family was $45,417. Males had a median income of $32,875 versus $25,833 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,424. About 6.1% of families and 9.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 11.8% of those under age 18 and 10.2% of those age 67816 or over.
