B. Jayamohan, or B. Jeyamohan is a noted Tamil
writer andliterary critic fromNagercoil in the south ofTamil Nadu .Jayamohan's novels, and in particular his style which is quite influenced by post-modernism, are considered by many Tamils to have changed the literary landscape of modern Tamil writing. His best-known, and critically most acclaimed, novel is "Vishnupuram", set in an imaginary land and showing some elements of
magic realism . Other well-known novels include "Rubber", "Pin thodarum nizhalin kural", "Kanyaakumari", "Kaadu" 'Pani Manithan'(A novel for Children),'Eazhaavadhu Ulagam" and "Kotravai". He has written screenplay for the Tamil movie, "Kasthuri Maan". He is currently writing screenplay for Bala's movieNaan Kadavul . He has published and translated critical works too.Jayamohan's ascetic experience is an asset and has largely influenced his perception. His spiritual ideas have rather created controversial discussions. He is influenced by both atheistic political thinking and also his spiritual side is quite influential in his writings. He is an ardent fan Lev Tolstoy and other humanitarian writers. Though his mother tongue is
Malayalam , he claims that Tamil is a comfortable vehicle because of the richness of the language.His acclaimed novel 'Vishnupuram' revolves around the ' spiritual quest through Indian philosophical schools. It has a complex theme where it tries to capture the time where Hinduism and Buddhism are intersecting. The fusion and disillusionment created in the novel are well woven.
