Dan O’Brien (born November 23, 1947 in Findlay, Ohio) is an author and through his Wild Idea Buffalo Company – a rancher. His 2001 book Buffalo for The Broken Heart – titled from his ranch in the Black Hills, South Dakota, The Broken Heart – is his eighth book. Two of his earlier books, 'The Rites of Autumn' and 'Equinox' recount his pursuit of falconry. O'Brien was involved with The Peregrine Foundation's work in re-introducing the Peregrine to North America following the species' decimation due to DDT use.
