Durham Swans

Durham Swans are an Australian Rules Football team that competes in the Aussie Rules UK National League Northern Division [ [http://www.sportingpulse.com/assoc_page.cgi?c=1-3912-0-0-0&sID=41869 Aussie Rules UK] ] based in Durham in the North-East of England.

History

The Durham Swans were founded in the summer of 2007 [ [http://www.facebook.com/groups.php?ref=sb#/group.php?gid=28138945513 Durham Swans homepage] ] , the inaugural year of the Aussie Rules UK National League Northern Division, with a team composed largely of expatriate Australians. The Swans defeated Newcastle Centurions in the final game of the season to be crowned Northern Division Champions [ [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDSQwj4KrXs Postmatch celebrations] ] . In 2008 the demographics of the team changed considerably with the loss of most of the previous year's Australians, resulting in the team to be formed almost entirely of UK-origin players. Finishing third behind Middlesbrough Hawks and Newcastle Centurions the Swans succeeded in the more important task of introducing the game to as many new players as possible.

The Sydney Swans
