Kelly Watson was a fictional character in the Australian soap opera "Home and Away", portrayed by Katrina Hobbs. She was a regular on the show from 1995 to 1997.

Character's background

Kelly was a doctor at the local hospital who was first seen treating the victims of a bush fire, notably Nelson McFarlane, who had been badly burned. In the process, she met Steven Matheson who was visiting Nelson-there seemed to be a spark between the pair of them but it never really developed. Not long after, Kelly decided to move into the Bay and she and Steven began renting a place together.

Kelly was less than happy when their landlord Travis Nash returned to the Bay and promptly moved himself in with them.Kelly and Travis developed something of a love-hate relationship which caused problems when their feud accidentally led to the destruction of a tape that would prove that Brian "Dodge" Forbes, who Steven had been accused of murdering, had faked his own death. Not long after, Kelly was kidnapped by Dodge in order to lure Steven to a rendezvous. He left her tied up in a car and she was suffering from severe dehydration by the time Travis rescued her.The experience caused her feelings towards him to soften and the pair soon started dating in what seemed to be Kelly's first serious relationship.

When Kelly was taking a blood sample from a patient, he moved and caused her to prick herself with the needle. She was horrified to later learn the patient had HIV and that therefore she might be infected. The news soon spread around the Bay and despite offering her support Ailsa Stewart refused to let Kelly treat her son Duncan when he suffered a cut.The incident was blown up out of all proportion and when a local radio station launched a virtual witch hunt against Ailsa Kelly rang up to defend her.Soon after, Kelly was given the all-clear.

Kelly tried to support Steven when he was fired from his job over his relationship with Selina Roberts but he turned on her and Travis, after punching Steven, threw him out.Not long after, Kelly found herself in the unexpected position of mother figure when first Stephanie Mboto, the younger sister of Travis' late girlfriend, and then her friend Casey Mitchell came to stay with them.Kelly also found herself in the firing line when Debbie Salter, a woman who had become fixated on Travis, planted a funnel web spider in Kelly's bed, possibly intending to kill her.The couple ended up taking out a restraining order against her.

Kelly's desire to remain on good terms with her superiors almost cost her dear when the surgeon who had performed an emergency bypass operation on Alf Stewart left the hospital to play golf against regulations. When Alf suffered complications, Kelly was forced to take him into theatre herself despite not being qualified and managed to keep him alive until her superior returned.Ailsa initially felt Kelly had mishandled the incident until Pippa Ross pointed out she should never have been put in that situation.

Kelly received a large shock when her parents arrived in town to announce that they were getting divorced. Her father came to stay with them for a while and Kelly was outraged when Travis asked him for permission to marry her. When Travis asked her directly Kelly accepted but her career-minded attitude soon caused her to realise that by staying in Summer Bay she was falling behind with her peers. She decided to take a job in the city and Travis agreed to go with her. However, Kelly realised such a life was not for him and eventually he would grow to resent her.She left Summer Bay alone, leaving a note for Travis telling him she wanted them to part company while she still loved him.
