- Hope Air
Hope Air is
Canada's national charity dedicated to serving Canadians in financial need by providing free air transportation to recognized facilities for medical care not available in the patient's home community.Hope Air has three different programs:
# the Commercial Flight Program, where airlines such as
WestJet andAir Canada offer free seats for patients travelling long distances
# the Corporate Aviation Program, where business aircraft offer transportation in empty seats or during repositioning flights for patients travelling medium distances (typically under 1,000 km)
# the Volunteer Pilot Program, where private pilots provide transportation in their own or in rented light aircraft for patients travelling short-to-medium distancesHope Air operates nationally in scope and has provided fellow Canadians with 20 years of much needed service. Hope Air's service is provided for all age groups (yet approx. 50% are children), and is not gender-specific nor illness-specific.
Run by a very small staff, Hope Air is among North America's most cost-efficient charities, spending less than 10% of its total revenue (including in-kind) on administration and fundraising annually. As a result, 90% of all contributions to Hope Air go directly to its mission: transporting needy Canadians to the healthcare they require.
