Jean-Pierre Marty (born on
October 12 ,1932 ) is a Frenchpianist and conductor.Marty was born in
Paris . He began studying piano at the age of ten with Marcel Campi, Julius Katchen, andAlfred Cortot . He gave his first concert in 1946 withPierre Fournier . He then studied at the Paris Conservatory from 1947 to 1957, withNadia Boulanger . At the same time he studied law and political sciences.In 1958, he went to the United States, and became pianist for the
New York City Ballet , and was first conductor for theAmerican Ballet Theater from 1963 until 1965, then he began turning his activities towards opera, making guest appearances as conductor in opera houses around the world. In 1979, he resumed his career as a pianist.Upon his return in France, he became in 1987, director of the American Conservatory in Fontainebleau.
