Small Throne Room of the Winter Palace

The Small Throne Room of the Winter Palace, St Petersburg, also known as the Peter the Great Memorial Hall, has columns of jasper. The room was created during a rebuilding of the palace in 1833, bt the architect Auguste de Montferrand. [ [http://www.hermitagemuseum.org/html_En/05/hm5_1_17.html State Hermitage Museum (1833)] retrieved 29 September 2008] Here, during the era of the Tsars diplomats gathered on New Years Day to offer good wishes to the Tsar. Following a fire of 1837, the room wwas recreated in its original style.
