- Prix Daru
The Prix Daru was a flat horse race in
France for three-year-oldthoroughbred s. It was run over a distance of 2,100 metres (approximately 1 mile 2½ furlongs) atLongchamp Racecourse in April, last taking place in 1977.It was first run in 1841 with the title Poule des Produits, which was changed to the Prix Daru in 1877. It was the earliest established of five key trial races for the
Prix du Jockey Club , which together became known as the "poules des produits" – the other four races were the Prix de l'Empereur, the Prix de Longchamp, the Prix du Nabob and thePrix Greffulhe . All but the Prix de l'Empereur (later titled the Prix Lupin) held specific conditions of entry based on the nationality of a horse's sire or dam. The condition for the Prix Daru, introduced in 1885, was that the dams of participating horses were born outside France.From 1943 to 1946 the race merged with another of the trials, the Prix Noailles (previously titled the Prix du Nabob), and was run as the Prix Daru-Noailles. This took place at Tremblay in 1943, then at Maisons-Laffitte for the following two years, ending at Longchamp in 1946.
The Prix Daru was last run on April 17, 1977, at which time it held Group 2 status.
