Lewisham railway station is on the Inner West Line CityRail line in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is located in the suburb of Lewisham. It receives 4 services an hour on weekdays and 2 on weekends. The Inner West line uses the two southernmost ('local') tracks of the six tracks of the lines passing through the station. Lewisham has two side platforms, with the 'Up' platform face fenced off against the 'Down Suburban' line used by non-stop trains.

History

Lewisham station opened in 1886 [cite web | url=http://www.nswrail.net/lines/show.php?name=NSW:main_south| title=Main South Line | publisher=Nswrail.net] . The Main Suburban Railway Line through Lewisham was quadruplicated in 1892 [Australian Railway History, Vol 56, No. 810, April 2005] , and an island platform with two side platforms was built to serve both 'fast' and 'slow' pairs of tracks. The line was sextuplicated through Lewisham in 1927 in association with electrification works [Sydney Electric Trains from 1926-1960, Australian Railway Historical Society Bulletin, April 2001] and the island platform serving the old 'fast' pair of tracks (to become the 'Up' and 'Down Suburban' tracks) was trimmed into a side platform to allow the provision of the new 'Up and Down Main' lines.
