Growden Mansion, a historical landmark, sits in the heart of
Bensalem , a city about 5 miles north ofPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania .The history of Growden Masion dates back to the late 1600s when Joseph Growden and Lawrence Growden purchased about 5,000 acres from
William Penn . In 1683Joseph Growden settled on this land and built a manor for the Growden family. In 1753, Joseph Growden's granddaughter Grace Galloway and her husbandJoseph Galloway inherited the land. Since women could not own property during this time,Joseph Galloway became the soul proprietor. Joseph Growden, good friend ofBenjamin Franklin , developed the property and built additions to the house. While Benjamin Franklin was visiting at the Growden Mansion, Benjamin decided to fly a kite during an electrical storm to provestatic electricity exists. Other significant historical figures such asGeorge Washington andJohn Adams have also stayed at Growden Manor.External links
