James Bertie, 1st Earl of Abingdon (16 June1653 - 22 May 1699) was an English nobleman.
Bertie was the eldest son of Robert Bertie, 1st Earl of Lindsey by his second wife Bridget Bertie, 4th Baroness Norreys, suo jure Lady Norreys. He succeeded his mother as 5th Baron Norreys on the latter's death, c. 1657. On the 30 November 1682 he was created 1st Earl of Abingdon by letters patent. On his death in 1699 he was succeeded in his titles by his eldest son.
Career
He was Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, 1674–1687 and 1689–1697; and High Steward of the City of Oxford, 1687. He was Chief Justice in Eyre, south of the Trent, 1693–1697.

He married firstly, Eleanora Lee, daughter of Sir Henry Lee, 3rd Bt., c. 1672, and had issue:

*Lady Bridget Bertie (c. 1683–1753)

He married secondly, Catherine Chamberlayne, daughter of Reverend Sir Thomas Chamberlayne, 2nd Bt. and Margaret Prideaux, on 15 April 1698.
