Gandhar (music)

Gandhar (music)

Gandhar is the third full note in the Indian classical music system. Like Western classical music, Indian classical music divides the octave into 12 semitones of which the 7 basic notes are "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa", in order, replacing "Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do". In the Indian Classical system, each note has its own formal name or 'personality'. In the case of the note "Ga", the name of the personality or character is Gandhar. Each of the seven notes is inspired by either the call of a bird or an animal. In the case of "Ga", or Gandhar, it is associated with the goat.
