Chris King (sportscaster)

Christopher Lynn King (born April 10, 1987) is an American sportscaster. He is best known for his play-by-play announcing for Comcast Varsity Sports On Demand and as the radio broadcaster for the Wenatchee Applesox of the West Coast League. He also served as a correspondent for KJR (AM) for the shows Varsity Football/Hoops Live.

Education

King was born in Everett, Washington and raised in nearby Marysville. King graduated from the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University in the spring of 2009.

Career

KJR-AM Varsity Sports Live

King was a reporter for both KJR Friday night shows, Varsity Football Live and Varsity Hoops Live, as the Greater Spokane League correspondent from 2005 to 2009. King was part of the "Trip Around the State" segment. He held this position before rejoining the Applesox full-time in 2010.

Comcast Sports

In 2006, King began calling the Greater Spokane League's "Game of the Week" for football, volleyball and basketball, available exclusively through the On Demand feature for Comcast digital cable subscribers across the state of Washington. King has had several color commentators in five years in the position, but most often he was joined by Katon "Polar Bear" Bethay, a fullback for the af2's Spokane Shock.[1]

Wenatchee AppleSox

King served as the radio broadcaster for the Wenatchee AppleSox of the West Coast League in the summer of 2008. Applesox games are carried on the team's flagship station 560 KPQ (AM) and online through www.kpq.com.[2]

In February of 2010, King rejoined the Applesox full-time as the team's Communications Director. In this capacity, King will return as the team's radio voice, beginning in June of 2010.[3]

Other notable work

During the 2006 season, King served as both play-by-play and color commentator for the af2 Everett Hawks, previously owned by NFL all-pro Sam Adams. From 2005-2007, and again in 2009, he also co-hosted of the annual Marysville Strawberry Festival Parade, which airs on local cable channels in Snohomish County. During the summer of 2007, King interned at KOMO 1000 News Radio, working with the news and sports departments.
