Ken Hargreaves

Joseph Kenneth Hargreaves MBE, known as Ken Hargreaves MBE, (born 1 March 1939) was the Conservative Member of Parliament for the Member of Parliament for the Hyndburn constituency in Lancashire from 1983 to 1992. A Chartered Secretary and company administrator by profession, he served as a local councillor and mayor before his election to Parliament.

In 1990, he founded the Movement for Christian Democracy with Liberal Democrat MP David Alton (now Lord Alton of Liverpool) and served as Vice-Chairman.

After his defeat at the 1992 general election, he worked for Conservative Central Office as a liaison to local Conservative clubs.

In the 2005 general election he supported the Conservative candidate James Mawdsley, a human rights campaigner.

As of 2006, he is chairman of the UK political pro-life lobby group [http://www.righttolife.org.uk/ Right to Life] .

On 29 December 2006, he was made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE), for services to the community in Lancashire, in the Queen's New Years Honour's List. [http://www.accringtonobserver.co.uk/news/s/521907_mbe_for_former_mp_and_lifelong_charity_worker_]
