TV3 News is the news department at TV3, a privately-owned Irish
television station . The first televisual broadcast of TV3 News took place at 18.00 on 20 September 1998. The station had gone on air only half an hour previously. TV3's first news presenters wereGráinne Seoige andAlan Cantwell . The current main evening bulletin takes place from 17:30 - 18:00 and is presented by Alan Cantwell andColette Fitzpatrick . TV3 News's morning bulletins are broadcast during "
Ireland AM " and presented by Elaine Crowley, withAidan Cooney presenting sports updates. They have been present on the show since its launch in 1999. Bulletins are broadcast every half hour. Anews ticker also runs throughout the programme, keeping viewers informed of the news headlines.Midday
This show debuted on 1 September 2008. It begins with a ten minute news update on the days breaking stories from the main news studio, before moving to a large round table where Alan Cantwell, Collette Fitzpatrick and Martin King engage in topical discussion with special guests. The format is similar to that of
Loose Women , anITV show previously telecast by TV3, in that members of the public can text and email in with their views on the topics being discussed.TV3 News @ 5.30
TV3's flagship daily news bulletin is broadcast daily at 5.30pm. The bulletin is half an hour long and includes News headlines with reports from TV3 News reporters and correspondents, sports news and weather. The show is presented from the news desk (and the weather area) and has a bright blue background theme. Alan Cantwell and Colette Fitzpatrick are the news anchors, while Trevor Welch and Martin King are the sports and weather presenters respectively.
On Saturdays and Sundays "TV3 News @ 5.30" is TV3's only news bulletin. It generally has only one presenter, Alan Cantwell, Colette Fitzpatrick or Elaine Crowley. There is one sports presenter and weather consists of a video with a voice over by the news presenter.
Originally an hour-long news bulletin was broadcast at 18:00 on weeknights. However, this attempt to compete with "" was a failure, and the bulletins were moved to 17:30 and 19:00 (later 18:30, after TV3 acquired the rights to "Emmerdale" and began showing it at 19:00, the same time as
ITV ). News @ 6.30 was eventually dropped in April 2007. For a time, the 17:30 programme was called "First Edition". Onbank holiday s and at weekends, "News @ 5.30" is the only news programme.Previous anchors have included

In early 2008, TV3 launched "Nightly News with
Vincent Browne ", a new news programme to replace "News Tonight". The programme runs from 23.00 - 23.40 from Mondays until Thursdays.The programme starts with a look at what is coming up on the show. This is followed by a short news bulletin (of approximately five minutes) with one news presenter. After this Vincent introduces his guests and discusses the day's news with them. After a short commercial break they look through the next day's papers, and discuss the stories within them.
The programme is broadcast from the news studio, albeit on a separate podium to the news desk. It has a red and black background theme.
Nightly News
"Nightly News" airs at around 23.00 on Friday nights. It is a thirty minute news bulletin and is presented by one news anchor, from the news desk with the "Nightly News" (red and black) background in the news studio.
