Northfield railway station, Adelaide
- Northfield railway station, Adelaide
-
Northfield railway station was located 14.3 km (9 mi) from Adelaide Railway Station. It was the terminus of the now defunct Northfield railway line and consisted of a single platform and shelter. It was closed in 1987, and has since been demolished.
History
The Northfield station and line dates back to 1857. The station was located on the eastern side of Briens Road, but the station was relocated to the western side of the road to prevent road vehicles from being interrupted by the arrival of trains. The new station opened in 1961, but the patronage was low. The STA decided that it was uneconomical to continue to run trains on the line. The last train serviced Northfield on Friday, 24 July 1987, and the track was ripped up shortly after. The station was probably demolished in the 1990s/early 2000s. There is no evidence of the station left as the site is now a skate park and BMX track.
