John Stanton (journalist)

John Stanton (born in Wichita Falls, Texas, USA in 1956) is a journalist and writer living in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area. He provided national security and political analysis & commentary for CBS Evening News, ABC, CNN, and Investor's Business Daily immediately following the insurgent attacks in New York City and Arlington, Virginia on September 11, 2001. He has provided national security/political commentary for The New Statesman (Ghana), The Toronto Star (Canada), KCMO radio Kansas City, America's Talk Radio--New York City, Radio 101--Croatia, KPFA (Pacifica), NPR, Science Daily and other outlets in the USA/World. He is the former senior editor of American Politics magazine and the co-host of a political/cultural radio program in Washington, DC.

Stanton has published over 100 articles ranging from straight-arrow reporting on homeland security, orphan nukes and information warfare to impassioned critiques/polemics of American politics and commentary on culture. Stanton has written for National DEFENSE magazine, American Behavioral Scientist/Ashgate Publishing House, the Technology Transfer Journal, Convergence Magazine, Security Management Magazine, Defense Week, Australian DEFENSE, Outlook India, China Daily, Pravda, Dawn Newspapers (Pakistan), and the History News Network. His work has been referenced in a number of military-related courses and political studies.

John Stanton is the author of three books of essays: Talking Politics with God and the Devil in Washington, D.C. (Nov 2007), A Power But Not Super (Aug 2004), and America's Nightmare (Aug 2003, co-author). He also has published three pieces of poetry: War Child, Rant for the Dolts and Parent's Duty.

John Stanton received his MA in Political Science with minors in economics and international affairs from the University of Detroit Mercy and his BS in Public Administration from Nichols College. He researched the impact of arms sales to the Persian Gulf countries and Middle East countries while at the American Enterprise Institute (during the fall of the Shah).

Stanton teaches an advanced seminar at a private high school in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area titled "Military & Diplomacy in the 21st Century". The seminar features prominent active and retired military/diplomatic guest speakers, along with representatives from organizations affiliated with and influencing the direction of U.S. national security policy. In 2007 Stanton authored a paper titled "Evolutionary Cognitive Neuroscience (ECN): Dual Use Discipline for Understanding & Managing Complexity and Altering Warfare". The paper received press coverage in the Washington, DC Metro area, and was also presented at a conference held in Europe. In 2008 Stanton produced a paper titled "Framework for Strategic Cultural Analysis".
