Jarhead's origins have never been explained within the strip. Jarhead is named for his appearance, his head is literally a brain in a jar mounted upon the body of a robot for with articulated arms. Jarhead always talks in the third person. He is compiled from individual components designed and drawn by Ben Hard [http://www.benhard.com/] [http://surlyben.com/] .
