David E. (Evans) Shaw is an American managing partner of Black Point Group,[1] a private investment partnership with a concentration in health care and technology. Among the firm's investments are Ikaria Holdings Inc,[2] a pharmaceutical company, where he serves as executive chair, and FetchDog.com, a catalog and website for dog owners. He is also a partner at Venrock Associates,[3] a venture capital partnership. From 2004 to 2007 he served as a senior adviser to New Mountain Capital, a private equity firm. His career has also included public service (State of Maine Executive Department 1972-1976), management consulting and teaching.
He is the founder and retired CEO of IDEXX Laboratories Inc,[4] a 5000+ person publicly held life science company, and has been actively involved as a director or investor in numerous technology companies. Recently he has served on the faculty of Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government,[5] the advisory board of the school's Center for Public Leadership and the selection committee for America's Best Leaders. He has been Chair of the Jackson Laboratory, a member of the Executive Committee of the US-Israel Science and Technology Commission, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a member of Young Presidents' Organization and CEO (Chief Executives Organization), a trustee of Maine Medical Center, Hurricane Island Outward Bound and other non-profits. He was appointed to the National Park Foundation Board of Directors in 2010.
Shaw was born in New Hampshire in 1950 and resides with his wife, actress Glenn Close,[6] in Scarborough, Maine and New York City.
