University of Illinois at Chicago Honors College

The University of Illinois at Chicago's Honors College originated in 1958 on the Navy Pier Campus as the University Honors Program or the James Scholars Program. In 1962, with the expansion of the Chicago Undergraduate Division to become a full four year school, the Honors Program was extended. In 1982, with the consolidation of the University of Illinois Medical Colleges with the undergraduate Colleges, the Program was again extended and renamed the Honors College.

Students admitted to the Honors College must complete an application to the College, provide evidence of merit and be in good standing with the University. The Honors College offices and student lounge are located in Burnham Hall. Additionally, students admitted to the Honors College are eligible to live on designated floors of the campus student residence halls.

Honors Students were initially known as "James Scholars" and received certain benefits as part of their membership in the Honors College, including priority registration. In 1997, the priority registration benefit was discontinued. [ [http://www.uic.edu/honors/25/ Honors College 25th Anniversary Page] ]
