enrollment_as_of=Woodbridge High School is a public
high school located inIrvine, California , serving grades 9-12. Founded in1980 , it has an approximate enrollment of 2,200 students. Woodbridge has a marching band and many athletic teams (cross country, volleyball, basketball, tennis, swimming, etc) which have participated in numerous [http://www.cifstate.org CIF] competitions. The school was required to be built being able to serve two functions, just in case one was to fail. Woodbridge High School was built with intentions of having it become a shopping center if student enrollment was low, as Principal Tom Nelson said in Fall 2003. In the past two years, new administration has been added that includes all of the current Vice Principals: Jason Viloria, Sheila Adams, and L. Coy Pilson. In March 2008, Tom Nelson announced retirement and Vice Principal, Jason Viloria became the new principal.Of note, the 1989 movie
Gleaming the Cube starringChristian Slater was filmed partially at Woodbridge High School. The WHS Entertainment Corps.
The Woodbridge High Entertainment Corps. is one of the top competitive marching bands in the Southern California region, directed by both Joselyne Blasdel and Brad Harris, putting off amazing shows of symmetry and sound. Their latest show features selections from the hit cinema production "007:Casino Royale", which proved to be a crowd favorite at football games. The competitive season was short due to the Southern California wildfires that hit in October-November,which forced
IUSD to cancel all physical activities, but the WHS Entertainment corps still managed to perform at two competitions. This year's Entertainment corps. contained 170+ members fashioning one of the largest in Woodbridge High history, including practical marching instruments such as thealto sax ,tenor sax ,clarinet ,flute ,piccolo ,trumpet ,trombone ,baritone ,mellophone ,andtubas . The Entertainment corps. also had both color guard and dance team, drumline section, and a percussion ensemble. Last year the percussion ensemble was ranked 4th in the world, and this year they are ranked first in state, but did not compete in the world competition.Sports
Woodbridge is well known for sports. Woodbridge soccer reached #1 in the county in both the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 seasons, led by coach John Sczuka.
