Remington is a small, incorporated town in Fauquier County, Virginia, United States. The population was 624 at the 2000 census. It is centered around US-15 and 29 and Virginia Route 664. Remington is less than a mile northeast of the Culpeper County line.

History

Remington is the site of the Battle of Rappahannock Station I and the Battle of Rappahannock Station II. Colonel John S. Mosby made raids in the town during the American Civil War and later made his home and practiced law in nearby Warrenton, Virginia. Remington's old town area is still an authentic old town area that remains mostly untouched by modern development. Many stores (a hardware store and a pharmacy in particular) are almost exactly as they were decades ago. Remington was shaped by transportation. It was a stop during the mid 1800s on the Rappahannock canal. Later it was a stop on the Orange and Alexandria rail road (called Rappahannock Station). During the 20th Century, Remington became a stopping point on Rt. 29. Today, Rt. 29 bypasses Remington leaving the town an example of rural small-town America that has been untouched by modern development.
