The Maitri missile project is a next-generation low-level, quick-reaction
surface-to-air missile (LLQRM) being developed byIndia n-basedDefence Research and Development Organization in collaboraion with the Britain-basedMBDA .Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), a lab ofDRDO will act as the main design centre in India.The project, with a budget of
US$ 500 million was said to have been signed in May 2007 [ [http://www.india-defence.com/reports/2946 india-defence.com: DRDO, MBDA to Jointly Develop Maitri Quick Reaction Missile] ] .DRDO is expected to design the missile, the radars and the C3I system for the missile, along with the launchers. MBDA's principal contribution will be in codeveloping or providing the seekers for the missiles, an area in which MBDA has proven, world class capabilities.
Over a 1000 missiles are expected to be produced for the Indian Army, Air Force and Navy.
