Bruce Carlyle Gilberd

Bruce Carlyle Gilberd was the 8th Anglican Bishop of Auckland whose Episcopate spanned a nine year period during the latter part of the 20th century. He was appointed to the CNZM

Born on 22 April 1938, he was educated at King's College, Auckland and the University of Auckland [ Who’s Who 2008 (London, A & C Black, 2008 ISBN 9780713672576 ] His qualifications are BSc (Auckland), LTh, LTh (Hons), STh (St John).

He embarked on an ecclesiastical career with a curacy at Devonport, New Zealand. Vicar of Avondale, Auckland from 1968 to 1971 he gained further experience through secondment to Egglescliffe on Teeside in the United Kingdom as an Industrial Chaplain. On his return he became Director of the "Interchurch Trade and Industrial Mission" in Wellington. From 1980 until 1985 he was a lecturer at St John's College, Auckland before elevation to the Bishopric of his native city in 1985.
