Hitchin Cricket Club is acricket club based inHitchin inHertfordshire .They currently play their matches in Lucas Lane in the
West Hitchin area of the town, a ground that they share with theBlueharts Hockey Club . They play in theHertfordshire Cricket League , their best position being in 1976 when they came second. The club is also the venue for Minor Counties games. In 1988, a second pitch was constructed.Visit of New Zealand
Perhaps the biggest claim to fame for the club was in 1994, when the New Zealand Cricket team started their England tour with a match against Hitchin. The Lucas Lane group was also the scene of Hertfordshire County Cricket Club's victory over Essex in the 1976 Gilette Cup - the first time a minor county had defeated a first class county in a major competition.
