I'm on Setanta Sports

"I'm on Setanta Sports" is a parody television programme that airs during Setanta Sports football coverage of the English Premier League. The star of the show is a puppet of current Inter Milan and former Chelsea and F.C. Porto manager Jose Mourinho.

Typical episodes are five to six minutes long, and debut weekly during Setanta's football coverage. Full-length episodes are also widely distributed on YouTube, and sections are repeated on the channel's new monday night show: Football Matters.

All the characters on the programme are voiced by Irish comedian and impressionist Mario Rosenstock. [" [http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/09/sports/soccer/09soccer.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=i%27m+on+setanta+sports&st=nyt&oref=slogin Pulling Strings] ". www.nytimes.com Retrieved 13 May 2008.]

Characters

Jose

AKA "the Special One." Jose is the only character who has appeared in every episode of the show except the specials. [" [http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-TOh3WlXJg0 First Ever Episode] ".] Self-assured and arrogant, he is the anchor of the "news program," reads viewer emails, takes phone calls on the air, and introduces video segments. Jose, who refers himself as the "special one" often hypes himself up using phrases like "I'm fantastic". He is also particularly blunt, and often tells participants to "shut up." The show always ends with the line, usually spoken by Jose, "be champions." In the second series, Jose called "Big Boss" (Roman Abramovich) after the show asking him to give him his old job back as Fabio had been 'rotating' Sven and Wayne and, in other occasion, punked him whilst the show was on air, among other general intervening in his show. It is expected that these after-show complaints will continue until either Fabio resigns or Jose is sacked.

Sven

AKA "It." Introduced midway through the first season, Sven is Jose's sidekick and foil. [" [http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ctZk1KTxaco Sven's Press Conference] ."] Hapless, insecure, and slow-witted, Sven does whatever Jose tells him to do, no matter how humiliating. In various episodes, Sven has dressed as a pimp, played piano and guitar, and been forced to perform as "The Gimp" from "Pulp Fiction". Sven is often confused for Willie Nelson, as the outfit he wore while introducing the "Wayne's Word" segment outraged a one-time telephone guest, "Willie," who complained about his 'impersonator.' He frequently begins his sentencecs with 'well' and 'very good'.

At the beginning of season 2, Sven, who in real life had signed for the Mexican national team, is seen dressed in colorful Mexican garb, with a colorful toy llama and common Mexican wide-brim hat.

=Wayne=

AKA "the Boy." Introduced as Jose's second "signing" near the end of the first season. [" [http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=pPpkadtu9mA Jose signs Rooney] ."] Wayne is child-like, brilliant, and incredibly talented in ventriloquism, chess, vocabulary, blindfolded Rubik's Cube, keepy-uppies, and singing the first line to "Ave Maria," among other things. Wayne is adored by the Special One, and his addition to the show overshadows the hapless Sven and leads to jealous outbursts. Wayne often says "Me like" when he is impressed with something.

Unlike the other characters on the show, Wayne's voice is not an impersonation, but is high-pitched and childish, and with an exaggerated Liverpool accent.

At the beginning of season 2, Wayne is seen in a full-body disease quarantine bag, a reference to his real life, where he was out for two weeks with a virus. He tells David that it was not malaria.

=Fabio=

Fabio Capello was a caller towards the end of the season in series one, calling to comment in his native Italian language. In Season 2, episode four was interrupted by an emergency press conference with Fabio announcing himself as the show's new director. He had previously been seen watching and calling the show from his living room. Jose was annoyed as he was to announce another new signing shortly afterwards, and Fabio might disrupt this plan. Fabio's role reflects a current situation in real-life football regarding directors of football and the board disrupting the managerial role, despite the fact that he was introduced before the situations at Newcastle United and West Ham United became apparent. In episode 7, Fabio punk'd Jose, with the help of Sven, Wayne and Sir Alex. Jose procceded to once again complain to Big Boss.

Callers

Most episodes feature a "calls from the viewers" segment. Many callers have made repeat appearances throughout the series.
*Dave from Newcastle / Dave in Stoke is a Geordie-accented caller who is obsessed with Shola Ameobi and ends up following him from Newcastle to Stoke. Almost all calls end with Jose telling him to shut up.

*Alex from Manchester (based on Sir Alex Ferguson) chews gum on the air and usually calls to declare that some portion of the news is an "absolute disgrace." He sides with Jose on a lot of issues, sends him bottles of wine, and tells Wayne to come home immediately.

*Arsene from London (based on Arsene Wenger) aka "Voyeur," finds the show ridiculous and mostly calls to complain about lies and deceit on the program. He is often goaded into fights with Jose and Alex from Manchester, which he always loses.

*Roy from Sunderland (based on Roy Keane) calls in from time to time to complain about rules being broken. Whenever he's paired with Alex from Manchester, he starts begging for new players.

*Rafa from Liverpool (based on Rafael Benitez) occasionally calls, but hangs up when Jose or others mention that he is fat.

*David from Los Angeles (based on David Beckham) is a dimwitted friend of Sven whose lack of understanding of words often leads to awkward moments.

*Roman from London (based on Roman Abramovich), aka "Big Boss," calls in from his helicopter and recently tried to offer Wayne a job.

Other callers have included: Mick from Wolverhampton (based on Mick McCarthy), Wolverhampton manager; Fabio (Fabio Capello), who converses with Jose in Italian, Robbie from Liverpool (Liverpool FC) (based on Robbie Keane), Mohamed from Fulham (Based on Mohamed Al Fayed); the Chelsea trio of Frank (Frank Lampard), Claude (Claude Makelele) and Didier (Didier Drogba); Nelson (Nelson Mandela), who is tech-savvy and can just be heard over the crackly long-distance phone; Jeff from London (Jeff Stelling), who called only once to mock Sven's forehead; and Willie (Willie Nelson), who called once to complain about the poor quality of Sven's imitation of himself. Sven, however, was adamant that he had not impersonated him.

Recurring Segments

*Wayne's Word - Wayne Rooney defines a difficult-to-pronounce footballing term. Named after the recurring sketch from "Saturday Night Live", and a biography of Rooney with the same name. Introduced by Sven on guitar, wearing a bandanna and pretending to be Willie Nelson.

*Sven's Wonderful World of Football - Sven travels to another locale, where he has no idea what he is expected to do. Ended one segment singing "It's Not Unusual" to British troops serving in Afghanistan.

*The News - Jose reports the news around the football world. Often includes Jose's 'My Top Story', which is a parody of a big piece of footballing news in real life. The first episode of season 2 included Jose reporting on the weather and showing sunny weather in Italy (the location of his new job) and thunderstorms in England in the locations of Liverpool (Liverpool FC), Manchester (Manchester United) and London (Arsenal). Often ends with Jose declaring, in a different way every time, that he is "fantastic."

*Thought of the Day - a short commentary on the state of football by Jose at the end of the show. Occurs mostly in the earliest episodes.
