- Selland Arena
The Selland Arena is an 11,300-seat multi-purpose
arena built in 1966 inFresno, California . It is named after former Fresno mayor Arthur Selland and has had over ten million people walk through its doors in its over forty-year history. Currently the arena is operated by SMG under contract from the City of Fresno. The arena is home to theCentral Valley Coyotes arena football team and to theFresno Falcons of theECHL . The Falcons played at Selland Arena through 2003 when they moved toSave Mart Center at Fresno State . The team will return to Selland for the 2008-09 season and play its first game back at Selland since the 2003 playoffs when it opens the season against theBakersfield Condors on October 24, 2008. It was also home to the Fresno State basketball program until it moved to the on-campus Save Mart Center in2003 . Events that have taken place at the arena include the WWF Royal Rumble 1996, Fully Loaded 1998, and the 2000Western Athletic Conference basketball tournament. It also has hosted theCalifornia Interscholastic Federation Central Section Basketball Finals since 2004 and the annual CaliforniaFuture Farmers of America State Conference.The arena originally had a 6,500 seating capacity, but a $10 million expansion project in 1981 increased the seating to its current capacity. The renovation of Selland Arena are new seats a new video replay scoreboard, Message boards and new Ice cooling system for Hockey games.
