The College Blog Network was opened in late January 2008 [ [http://www.killerstartups.com/Social-Networking/TheCollegeBlogNetworkcom---College-Blogs/ TheCollegeBlogNetwork.com - College Blogs | Visit TheCollege ] ] and features college student, alumni, and faculty blogs from around the world. The College Blog Network [or TCBN for short] helps college students connect [ [http://www.itmilk.com/2008/01/26/college-bloggers-unite/ College Bloggers Unite | IT Milk ] ] with other bloggers at their school and other schools [ [http://usjamerica.wordpress.com/2008/03/12/college-blog-network/ College Blog Network « The United States of Jamerica ] ] around the country [ [http://kxj.tumblr.com/post/29767458 kxj.micro.blog ] ] . The community is exclusive to college students [ [http://ryankellett.com/blog/?p=812 On Rye » College Blogs Again ] ] but provides a central location for all people interested in college to get the dirt on what is going at their college and others. What makes TCBN unique is that it allows users to rate each other's blog posts, making a truly user-driven community.

The College Blog Network serves as a tool for colleges and a community for users [ [http://blog.nostalgic-garden.org/?p=505 N-G.org is part of TCBN now. | Nostalgic Garden ] ] that wish to share their thoughts and work with other higher-education individuals around the country. Unlike some sites TCBN does not aim to detract traffic from its member blogs but rather to aid in the discovery of member blogs. This results in increased traffic to TCBN member blogs and a true respect for showing content "in it's intended form".

TCBN serves many purposes- it connects current students with other bloggers, serves as a resource for prospective students and parents, aids admissions offices, and helps professors and faculty share their work with their school and other schools around the country.

The site helps connect people who would otherwise be unable to find one another amid the millions of blogs searchable by Google Blog Search and Technorati [ [http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch?hl=en&q=college+blogs&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wb college blogs - Google Blog Search ] ] .

History

With RIT as the first participating school in the network, The College Blog Network has expanded to include more than 45 schools in its first 2 months of operation. The site also added many new features in its first 2 months such as blogwire, alumni support, international support, RSS feeds, and members-area upgrades.

BlogWire, is the only RSS feed on the internet that aggregates college student blogs exclusively [ [http://www.thecollegeblognetwork.com/schools/wire.php BlogWire - Recent posts by college bloggers - College Blog Network ] ] .
