WMDO-CA is a low-power Telefutura affiliate in Washington, DC. The over-the-air signal is very weak, but the station is carried on many cable systems throughout Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia. WMDO is owned by Entravision Communications.

History

Univision first came to the Washington, DC market on May 25, 1988 as W14AA on channel 14. On November 1, 1988, W14AA moved to channel 48 and became W48AW. The call letters were changed to WMDO-LP on February 1, 1995. In October 1998, WMDO-LP moved to channel 30 so that WRC-TV could broadcast their digital signal on channel 48. On March 20, 2001, the station changed their call letters to WMDO-CA, which remain the call letters to this day. In November 2003, the station moved to channel 47 so that WNVT could broadcast their digital signal on channel 30. WMDO's history of being shuffled around to different channels is not uncommon, since the FCC requires that low-power stations switch channels if a full-power station wishes to use their channel.

On January 1, 2006, WMDO and WFDC exchanged Networks. WMDO began broadcasting Telefutura and WFDC began broadcasting Univision. In the summer of 2008, WMDO-LD started up a digital broadcast on VHF 8.

Despite its calls resembling so, WMDO was never affiliated with Telemundo (which is seen locally on WZDC).
