"Sanctus Ignis" is Adagio's first release (2001). "Sanctus Ignis" served to showcase Adagio's neo-classical influences more directly than their later albums; some find that Adagio only began to develop their unique sound with their second release, "Underworld". The album was written entirely by the band's guitarist, Stephan Forté.
