"Pigs in Zen" is a song by Jane's Addiction released on their 1988 album "Nothing's Shocking". The song also appeared on the live album "Jane's Addiction", "Sream: The Compilation", as well as the Jane's Addiction greatest hits compilation "Up from the Catacombs".

Lyrical meaning

The song is a comparison between humans and pigs, although it is never mentioned in such a straight forward way. The song describes elements of a pigs lifestyle then has the repeated line "pigs in zen". The pigs are nude, they roll in the mud, they eat shit, and they are ultimately led to slaughter however they remain at peace or "in zen" which is a direct contrast between human life.
