List of Muppet Babies characters

List of Muppet Babies characters

This is a list of characters from the 1980s television cartoon "Muppet Babies".

Main characters

Nanny

Nanny is the woman in charge and she also acts like a mother to the gang. Nanny would always come into the nursery if she heard a scream or if something broke. When Nanny came into the nursery she would always say "Hi, Kids!" which became her first catchphrase. Nanny's second catchphrase would be in the middle of the Muppet Babies theme where she would open the nursery and ask "Is everything alright in here?". Nanny was voiced by Barbara Billingsley (who had starred on "Leave It to Beaver").

Baby Kermit

Kermit is a baby version of Kermit the Frog and was best known for wearing a sailor suit. Kermit was always the leader of the gang. He was also known for loving toy trains. He also avoided Piggy when she got all crazy over their love. Whenever the babies were in their imaginations, Kermit would sometimes enter in as "Indiana Frog" to try to save them from peril. Kermit was voiced by Frank Welker.

Baby Piggy

Piggy is a baby version of Miss Piggy. She was best known for her line "Yippie skippy!" when she was happy. She has a bit of a temper, and sometimes has a rivalry with Baby Skeeter. She also was in love with Kermit on the show, and insists on marrying him someday. She is also known for calling Gonzo a bunch of wacky names based on his appearance, and squeezing his nose that sometimes made a honking sound. One of her hobbies and interests include ballet and eating various desserts. Piggy was voiced by Laurie O'Brien.

Baby Gonzo

Gonzo was a baby version of The Great Gonzo. He is best known for carrying a stuffed chicken based on the adult Gonzo's girlfriend Camilla the Chicken. He also was crazy over Piggy which would cause him to get hurt while she was angry. He is also known for being weird and liking dressing with names such as "Bologna/Marshmallow/Mayonnaise/Bubble Gum". Gonzo was voiced by Russi Taylor.

Baby Fozzie

Fozzie was a baby version of Fozzie Bear. An aspiring comedian, he would always tell jokes to an imaginary audience and have tomatoes thrown in his face. Fozzie was voiced by Greg Berg.

Baby Scooter

Scooter was a baby version of Scooter. He was best known for being really smart and great with computers. Whenever the gang had a clue about what is going on, Scooter would sometimes use his computer as a tool. Scooter also has a rivalry with his twin sister Skeeter. Scooter was voiced by Greg Berg.

Baby Skeeter

Skeeter was Scooter's twin, and only appeared in the cartoon series. She is also an athlete and gymnastics is her favorite sport. Skeeter also had a rivalry with Piggy about being pretty. In one episode, Skeeter won a coin toss for the role of Snow White (and Piggy having to settle for playing the Wicked Queen). Skeeter was voiced by Howie Mandel (1984-1985) and then Frank Welker (1986-1991). Prior to some of the female characters in Muppet productions being puppeteered by men, Skeeter was the only girl in the nursery voiced by a male, save for an appearance by the baby version of Janice, voiced by Dave Coulier.

Baby Animal

Animal was a baby version of the crazy adult counterpart. Animal was known for acting hyper and would always ruin a story or eat something that wasn't edible. Animal was commonly featured at the end of an episode were he would say, "Go-bye-bye!" followed by his laugh. He would also be accompanied by Gonzo if there was another episode coming up after the previous one. Animal was voiced by Howie Mandel (1984-1985) and then by Dave Coulier (1986-1991).

Baby Animal was the only character whose appearance changed over the course of the show. When Animal was voiced by Howie Mandel, he had thick eyelashes and his face would change from pink to orange because of the ink and paint glitches that occurs in TOEI Animation's first two seasons. When Dave Coulier took over as Animal, his eyelashes became thin and his face would always stay pink.

Baby Rowlf

Rowlf is a baby version of Rowlf the Dog. He always had an ear for music and was the nursery's sole musician. One of his possessions is his miniature piano, which he would sometimes play to cue in a musical number for the episode. Despite the fact that Skeeter was voiced by a male, the producers wanted voices that sounded close to their adult counterparts. Rowlf is voiced by Katie Leigh.

In the Season 3 episode "The Muppet Broadcasting Company", Rowlf states that he is the oldest baby. This is a nod to the fact that Rowlf is the oldest Muppet having appeared on The Jimmy Dean Show in the 1960s.
