- Jeteur de pierres
"Jeteur de pierres" (French for 'Stone thrower') is a
2003 song by theFrench hip hop group Sniper. It has a very strong political overtone in its lyrics, which condemn the Israeli occupation of Palestine. The song accuses theWestern world ,Ariel Sharon , theUnited States and the Western media of supporting the occupation and of thePalestinian s' plight, and furthermore the rest of the world for not doing anything to help resolve the situation. A verse goes:Laxiste, le monde laisse faire et se défile Pendant que tu tues des civils et les appelles terroristes On fait mine d'être concerné, mais dans le fond on s'en fout Regarder sans être outré tant que ça n'arrive pas à nous
Or, in English:
The world, lax, lets it happen and defiles itself While you kill civilians and call them terrorists We pretend to be concerned, but at heart we don't give a damn Looking without being outraged as long as it isn't happening to us
The song concludes with the note: "Si à tes yeux on prend position, comprend bien / Qu'on parle pas en tant que musulman rien qu'en tant qu'être humain." ("If in your eyes we take sides, you should understand / That we don't speak as
Muslim s, only ashuman being s".)Sniper have been attacked for inciting hatred towards
Jew s in the song by the then French Minister of the InteriorNicolas Sarkozy .External links
