The Harvard Geographic Society is the largest, most active geography organization at Harvard University. It was founded in recent years to fill the gap in geography on campus--there has not been a geography major, course, or organization at the university since 1948. From its inception in recent years, the organization has been dedicated to sponsoring activities relating to physical, cultural, historical geography and current events.

Activities include mini-geography bees at monthly meetings, geographic information systems (GIS) workshops, Harvard map-collection tours, and a regional geography bee for middle school students in the Boston/Cambridge area. Recently, it has implemented a mentoring/tutoring program for students in the region as part of its educational commitment to advance geographical knowledge in America's youth.

As its motto goes, "HGS: It's the only place you'll find geography at Harvard."
