In the mid-1980s, owner–operator Daniel Hamilton opened a store in
Wisconsin that catered to people who enjoyed watching wildlife. From the beginning, Hamilton saw the need for supplying optics of good quality to his customers, and brought in popular brands of binoculars and spotting scopes. By listening to what outdoor enthusiasts were asking for in the way of unique features, the store developed a reputation for supplying wildlife watchers with rugged optics of good optical quality. In 1999, Hamilton began developing officially-licensed binoculars and spotting scopes for theNational Audubon Society (Audubon Binoculars), followed by a line of binoculars and spotting scopes for Don and Lillian Stokes (Stokes Birding Series). In 2004, Hamilton started the Vortex Optics line of binoculars, spotting scopes and riflescopes, designed and distributed out of Middleton, Wisconsin.Products
