United Kingdom Prospective Diabetes Study

The UKPDS was the largest clinical research study into diabetes ever conducted at the time. [Diabetes UK http://www.diabetes.org.uk/en/About_us/Our_Views/Position_statements/UKPDS__Implications_for_the_care_of_people_with_Type_2_diabetes_/]
The study was conceived by Professor Robert Turner in 1976, conducted in the UK in 1977-1997, and published main results in 1998.
