USS "Lebanon" (AG-2) was a C1-M-AV1-type cargo ship constructed for the
U.S. Navy during the end ofWorld War II . However, as the war was ending, the need for additional cargo ships was found not necessary and "Lebanon" was sold for commercial service.Constructed in Wisconsin

Maritime Commission contract by Walter Butler Shipbuilding Co.,Superior, Wisconsin ,15 May 1944 ; launched14 October 1944 ; sponsored by Mrs. Charles E. Denny; acquired by the Navy25 August 1945 ; and commissioned atNew Orleans, Louisiana ,26 September 1945 , Lt. Robert K. Stuart in command.Found to be surplus to needs
The end of
World War II reduced the need for cargo ships and "Lebanon" decommissioned15 November 1946 . She was returned to theMaritime Commission the same day, was chartered to Lykes Brothers Steamship Company, Inc., and renamed "Coastal Archer".References
