The BL 4.5 inch Medium Field Gun was a British field gun introduced at the start of the Second World War.

History

Initially a supply of modern 4.5 inch guns was to be made by converting existing 60-pounders. Few of these were suitable for conversion so a new gun was ordered to share the same carriage that would be used for the 5.5 inch gun. Production did not start until 1940, but the gun served throughout the war. Post war, the gun was relegated to training purposes and finally declared obsolete in 1959.

Variants

*Mark 1:The 60 pounder conversions. Obsolete in 1944.
*Mark II:Model in use in WW2.
