Ananadasharm High School (1884 Estd.) was a private school located in Bankikodla-Hanehalli, Uttar Kannada, Karnataka. It was founded by "M . N. Kulakrni" and "Datta master (Nadkarni) " Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmins from Bankikodla-Hanehalli. Kulkarni was a press owner in Mumbai and Datta master was the headmaster of the English middle school. Over the decades, this school has produced outstanding students who have reached distinguished positions in their society. This school is now supported by the Karnataka state government. It is a secondary education school, providing education from eighth standard through tenth standard (S. S. L. C). The medium of instruction is Kannada. During the first few years, science and mathematics were taught in the English language.

Location

Hanehalli-Bankikodla twin villages of Uttar Kannada are neighbouring villages in a valley in the southern western section of Karnataka, India. Together they form a community of people from different castes and religions. Literature, folk art, spiritual lore, music and sports keep enthralling here.

Just to the north of this village, the Gangavali river joins the Arabian Sea. The town of Gokarna, just to the south, is a place of pilgrimage for Hindus and is known as the Kashi of the south. The surrounding Sahyadri mountains hug the Arabian sea; the open fields provide a lot of recreational opportunities to the locals. It has creeks and shallow ponds and bridges vulnerable to rainy seasons. For religious or spiritual people, there are lots of temples, church and masjid to worship in.

History

Anandashram High school (The name of the 8th Guru of Chitrapur saraswats) is one of the 2nd oldest high schools in Uttar Kannada district. The school has continued to do great work among weaker sections of the society. To keep the light of knowledge burning, the then the leaders of Chitrapur saraswat brahmins during the British rule in India established the Rural Education Society (RES) and took the task of spreading education to the deserved in the village and the surrounding villages. From then on, the school has been steady to progress in its curricular and co-curricular fields of activities and has contributed innumerable scholars.

In the early days, classes were held in Bakanatheshwar temple and in the upper portion of Dinu Master's house.
