Linux-Manipur is a
Linux User Group, and is the Manipur Chapter of the India Linux User Group community (ILUG). Primary aim is to make awareness ofLinux or Free and Open Source Software inManipur and theNorth East India , help and guide the students and computer users, share knowledge, discuss technical problems etc.Linux-Manipur regularly organises meetings to discuss Free and Open Source Software. Linux-Manipur has conducted events such as the workshop on
GNU /Linux, free workshops, demos and IT Talent search for popularisation of FOSS. The participants included members from BSNL, DST, CIC, Bio Resource, ITCTC, AITECT etc. The workshop was totally practical and people oriented. The workshop mainly covered partitioning the hard disk for installation, ext3 filesystem, SUSE Linux installation, Using Open Office, CD writing using K3b, GPRS setting, Multimedia like Mplayer, Detecting mobile phones, Remote login, Router and Server settings, Brief introduction on Samba setting etc.From 2008 onwards, Linux-Manipur has been planning to organize FOSS 2008 [cite web

title=2008 schedule] and so on every year to popularize FOSS tools and philosophy and the first ever event is taking place on the 31st and 1st of March and April 2008 atManipur University. This event will bring together all FOSS talent in various parts of the country specially India’s North East regions and forcast it, to inspire Educational Institutions, Governmental Organizations andNGO to adopt Free and Open Source Software Solutions.External links
