Giacopo Venier (also: Venieri, Venerio and de Veneris;
1422 -August 3 ,1479 ) was an Italian cardinal from the 15th century.Known also as the Cardinal of Cuenca.Biography
Venier was born at
Recanati . After obtaining doctorate in law he became papal scriptor in Rome and, later, cleric of theApostolic Chamber .He was elected by the pope bishop of Siracusa on
January 9 ,1462 . Transferred to the see of León onSeptember 16 ,1464 . KingHenry IV of Castile resent him to Rome as his ambassador. Venier was transferred to the see of Cuenca onOctober 6 ,1469 , and occupied the see until his death.Pope Sixtus IV created himcardinal priest in theconsistory ofMay 7 ,1473 with the title ofSs. Vito e Modesto , deaconry elevated "pro illa vice" to title and later opted for the title of S. Clemente onDecember 3 ,1476 . He died onAugust 3 ,1479 in Recanati. His remains were transferred toRome and buried in theBasilica di San Clemente .External links
