Lesser Sunda Islands , the northern coast ofAustralia from the Kimberley to the western side of theCape York Peninsula , including subcoastally in theTop End of theNorthern Territory , and southernNew Guinea . It is similar to theRufous Fantail , from which it has been split taxonomically but, apart from minor overlap in the easternMoluccas , their geographic ranges are discrete.
