St Patrick's Hospital is a
psychiatric facility located inDublin 8 ,Ireland , nearKilmainham and thePhoenix Park . Founded withmoney bequeathed byJonathan Swift . In hispoem "Lines on theDeath of Dr Swift", Swift famously wrote:"He gave the little
wealth he had /To build ahouse for fools andmad , /And showed by onesatiric touch /Nonation needed it so much."The hospital retains Swiftian touches, with wards named after
Stella (Esther Johnson ),Vanessa (Esther Vanhomrigh ),Henry Grattan , the village ofKilroot where Swift worked asPrebend at the church, andLaracor when he also worked as aclergyman .It is a now a private not-for-profit hospital. It has departments of
occupational therapy ,social work andclinical psychology as well aspsychiatry . It offersday hospital andoutpatient services as well asinpatient ones. Itsmotto is "Festina Lente ." Prominent psychiatrists such asAnthony Clare are associated with it.Maurice Drury , a friend ofLudwig Wittgenstein , was also associated with the hospital. Thepoet Austin ClarkeAustin_Clarke_(poet) was an inpatient there for a year in 1919.The hospital provides a wide and growing range of treatment programmes for particular disorders and attracting patients from throughout Ireland and from abroad. These specialised treatment programmes include programmes for
mood disorders (depression andbipolar depression),anxiety disorder , analcohol dependence /substance abuse programme, the largest inpatient unit in Ireland for the treatment of theeating disorder sanorexia nervosa andbulimia ,Cognitive Behavioural Therapy , a young adult programme, a treatment programme for those who suffer severe forms ofchronic fatigue syndrome as well as amemory clinic and generalpsychiatric care .External links
