Jean Beatrice Forest (born
July 24 ,1926 ) is a retired Canadian Senator.Born in
Minitonas, Manitoba , she moved toAlberta with her husband Rocky in 1947. She was appointed to Alberta's first Human Rights Commission in 1974 and to the Minister's Advisory Committee on the constitution in 1978. She was Chancellor of theUniversity of Alberta from 1978 to 1982.She was appointed to the
Canadian Senate in 1996 representing Edmonton. She resigned in 1998 because of concerns for her husband's health.In 1987, she was made an Officer of the
Order of Canada .An all girls Jr.High School started in 2005 in Edmonton, Alberta is named after Jean Forest, called the Jean Forest Leadership Academy or JFLA.The Jean Forest Leadership Academy is expanding to include grade 10 in the 2008/2009 school year. The extension of the junior high will be housed in St. Joesph Composite high school in Edmonton, Alberta. In the initial year grade 10 will be introduced and in following years grades 11 and 12 will be phased in. St. Joe's is known for it's self-directed learning program, however, the girls of the Academy will be learning in a classroom setting, designed to foster the bonds between the young women. Unlike the junior high the girls will not be wearing a full uniform, instead they will be wearing campus wear, which can be purchased from ELITE Sportswear.
She had 7 sons and daughters and they all were born in Alberta.
