James Cook was founded in 1957 after Moorefield racecourse was demolished and the ground was divided into three schools; Moorefield Girls High School, St. George Special School and James Cook Boys Technology High School. James Cook had an opportunity to become a Sports High School but decided to become a Technology High School.
Queen Elizabeth II visited the School in 1973 along with her HusbandPrince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh .Students
