Fakhouri

Fakhouri

Fakhouri (noun) Arabic in origin, is a common surname in the Middle Eastern countries of Jordan and Lebanon. Its literal translation is "pottery maker".

“Fakhouri is an Arabic name that was given to the family which adopted the craftsmanship of making pottery out of clay. The original word is fukhar' which literally means clay. So if you made fukhar, then you were called a fakhouri and that’s the story."

The first Fakhouri ancestors lived in a small town in the mountains of Lebanon called Rashaya el Fukhar and from their members of the family moved to Syria Jordan and Palestine.
